Southeast Asia — The Asian Century in Motion

Here in Southeast Asia — in Thailand, in Vietnam — I see something else entirely. If I were 21 again today, knowing everything I know now, I would leave Australia as quickly as possible. Not out of anger. Not out of resentment. Out of clarity. Because clarity is something you only gain through time, experience, and distance.

The Greatest Decision: From Australia to Britain

At 21, I left Australia and went to Britain. It was the greatest decision of my life. Britain, at that time, was an entrepreneur’s dream. It was a place where effort and reward were directly connected. If you worked harder, you earned more. If you took risks, you could build something meaningful.

I call myself one of Thatcher’s children. There was confidence in the system. Confidence in the future. Confidence in yourself.

“I remember buying things before I even had the money — because I knew I’d earn it the following week. That wasn’t recklessness. That was belief. That was entrepreneurial confidence.”

The Shift in Confidence

That confidence is everything. And it’s something I don’t see in young people in Australia today. What I see instead is hesitation. Uncertainty. Pressure.

But here in Southeast Asia — in Thailand, in Vietnam — I see something else entirely.

  • I see energy.
  • I see growth.
  • I see possibility.

Vietnam, in particular, feels like one of the great entrepreneurial frontiers of the modern world. The momentum is real. The optimism is real. The opportunity is real. This isn’t theory. You can feel it in the streets. You can see it in the pace of development. You can see it in the eyes of the people building their futures here.

The Asian Century is Now

This is the Asian century. We’re already 26 years into it. The next 50 to 75 years will define the lives of today’s young generation.

And the epicentre of that growth is here. Not someday. Now.

My advice to any young person with even the slightest entrepreneurial instinct is simple: Go where the energy is. Go where opportunity is expanding, not contracting. Go where optimism lives. Because environment shapes everything.

It shapes:

  • Your thinking.
  • Your ambition.
  • Your belief in what is possible.

A Rare State of Being

Today, as I stand here in Southeast Asia, I feel something that is increasingly rare in the modern world: Clarity. Freedom. Calm. Happiness.

I stand here in Southeast Asia

I stand here in Southeast Asia

Not because life became easier. But because I chose to place myself in an environment aligned with growth, possibility, and optimism. And that decision — more than any other — changed everything.

This is not advice driven by theory. This is advice driven by lived experience. And if there is one thing I know for certain, it is this:

“The greatest investment you will ever make is choosing the right environment in which to build your life.”

Welcome to the Asian century. Welcome to the future. Welcome to Mr. Paparazzi’s World. 🌎
